The garbage situation in Portland has left the place “aesthetically repulsive” in addition to posing health risks to the population.
That’s the position of Environmental Health officer for Portland Lorenzo Hume. Addressing the Portland Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday, (Sept 8) Hume said the poor management of garbage in the parish and slow collection must be dealt with quickly by the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSMWA).
Hume also said that the poor garbage collection aids in the breeding of rodents and mosquitoes.
