PORTLANDERS PREPARE FOR BERYL

CONSIDERATION ALSO FOR HOMELESS SHOULD HURRICANE HIT

As preparations intensified in Portland, on Tuesday, July 2, for the impending arrival of Hurricane Beryl, consideration was also being given to homeless persons.

Mayor of Port Antonio Councillor Paul Thompson says the homeless in the town will be relocated to the Portland Rehabilitation Centre if necessary.

(Several commercial entities were boarded up and secured)

A drain on Manning Avenue was being cleaned Tuesday afternoon and other drains were also being cleared. Larger stores were being boarded up and offices of commercial entities closed by mid-day.

There were lines of vehicles as several motorists topped up their fuel levels with visits to the gas stations in Port Antonio and other major towns.

Many shops and supermarkets as well as Coronation Bakery had run out of baked products including bread as residents stocked up on food.
