PORTLAND WOMAN MURDERED

LOVER BEING SOUGHT IN PORTLAND’S THIRD MURDER

A 46-year-old woman was chopped to death and her common-law husband is being sought by Portland police.

Dead is Merylin Whyte, labourer of Comfort Castle, Portland. Her death brings to three the number of murders in Portland so far this year.

Reports are that there was blood everywhere in the house where Whyte was killed, sometime between 4 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1.

Her body was found in Comfort Castle in the house of the brother of her common-law husband.

Her common-law husband is Richard Gray, also called Otis, a farmer of Mill Bank in the parish. Police want to contact him as part of the investigation. Gray’s brother found the body when he came home from work.

Police called to the scene said Whyte sustained several wounds to her chest and abdomen. Blood was seen all over the living room, bathroom, and kitchen.

Reports are that, from the blood mark, it appeared that Whyte struggled with her killer.

She was taken to the Port Antonio Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
