The political scene is getting hot in North East St Ann where a major showdown is expected between the JLP and PNP in the next General Elections.

The seat is represented in Parliament by Marsha Smith o the JLP.

On Saturday, September 2, the two sides were continuing to keep a high presence in the Constituency with PNP President Mark Golding doing a walkabout in Ocho Rios and opening the PNP’s NE St Ann Constituency office in St Ann’s Bay.

Here is Mr Golding on the tour taking questions from the media:

It was only weeks ago that he was at the constituency conference of the party where Dr Ryan Simpson was installed as the PNP candidate for MP.

The JLP camp is becoming more assertive too, now that it’s clear to all that Marsha Smith will not be running for a second time. The party has solidified around Senator Matthew Samuda who is expected to be formally presented by Prime Minister Andrew Holness in the next four to six weeks. That’s after Warren Newby who was making a bid to represent the JLP was asked to stand down.

Mr Samuda was in the parish and constituency too Saturday. He dropped in at a back-to-school treat, to which he contributed; went to a funeral home to show respect to a late party worker and was around until a massive stage show took place at Jack Ruby Avenue (formerly James Avenue) in celebration of his Birthday.

The event went into Sunday morning.
