ST ANN, ST MARY & PORTLAND POLICE WOMEN RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE
Thirteen female police officers from Police Area 2 who had each given over 30 years of service to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) were recognised at the Area 2 Women Police 75th anniversary awards held at the Casa Maria hotel in St Mary.
The conference and awards took place on Thursday, May 16. Area 2 includes St Ann, St Mary and Portland.

Guest speaker for the event Dr. Gail Hudson Programme Director in the Transformation Unit of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, told the women that their job was ungrateful, “You are in a job that is very ungrateful and it is only up to you to take care of yourself mentally, physically, financially and emotionally,” she said.
Dr Hudson encouraged the police officers to take care of themselves.

“Ladies make time for yourself. Get your facial all the little things that are nice or what makes you feel nice. Make it about you.” She said making time for oneself was also important for mental health.
This theme was also taken up by the head of St Mary Police, Superintendent Bobette Morgan Simpson who has already served the Force for 35 years. She told the officers at the conference: “Take care of your physical self. Make time to do the little massages and facial so you can look good and feel good about yourself and not [be] stressed out.”
The officers who have given over 30 years in the force are:
Area 2 HQ: Superintendent Gladys Brown Ellis and Inspector Gladys Reid;
St. Mary Division: Sgt Veronica Richards, Sgt Andrea Bennett, and District Constable Jascinth Wright;
St Ann Division: District Constable Marcia Nembhard, Sgt Yvonne Notice, Sgt Patrice Brown, Corporal Evadney Smith, Sgt Judith Smith, Corporal E. Black, and Corporal Angella Richards;.
Portland Division: Sgt. Ena Brown, Corporal Yvette Spence, and District Constable Carlene Young Willis.

Among the awards given out were some for exceptional service in executing warrants, which are crucial to the functioning of the courts.
District Constable Leonie Henry of the St Ann Police Division executed the most warrants for the period March 2023 to March 2024. In St Mary Constable Maysal Davis issued the most warrants in the same period.
