POLICE WARN OF CONGESTION AROUND REBEL SALUTE

PEOPLE SHOULD EXPECT UP TO THREE-HOUR DELAYS

Police are advising people in St Ann to expect “significant traffic congestion” along the North Coast Highway, because of the Rebel Salute Show.

They say that on Friday and Saturday, January 19 and 20,  you should avoid using the corridor between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. However you do, you should get on the road two to three hours before the usual time.

The advisory by the police was issued Tuesday, January 16, ahead of Rebel Salute Friday and Saturday, January 19 and 20. They say people should start their journeys two to three hours ahead of their usual times. Police advise that if you have a flight from one of the two international airports you should get out with an additional two hours to spare.

Rebel Salute will be held at Grizzly’s, Richmond, near Priory St Ann. That roadway is a two-lane strip that is a known bottleneck, on the North Coast Highway. Dozens of police are expected to help the traffic flow.

The advice, anticipating congestion, comes against the massive gridlock last year, associated with Rebel Salute, affecting up to 25 miles of roadway between Ocho Rios and Runaway Bay. People living in communities between those towns and using the main road endured up to three hours in traffic.
