Bascoe, Principal of Tacky High School, Gayle, St Mary, resigned as caretaker for the PNP in West St Mary, on Friday, March 8. As the North Coast Times reported Saturday morning, Bascoe said he was stepping down because of a “ scurrilous and malicious allegation” made against him.
Acting Superintendent for St Mary, Kevin Francis did not divulge the nature of the allegations against Bascoe. However, he told a radio station that the police continued to investigate them. It was not clear whether Bascoe had been interviewed by the police.
Reports are that a man filed a complaint that in February he was assaulted at Bascoe’s house. Mr Bascoe has denied the claims.
In his letter to the PNP President Mark Golding, Mr Bascoe said he was resigning “ with great regret and a heavy heart.”
He said he was doing so because of the “recent scurrilous and malicious allegation [that] has been levelled against me.” He said he vehemently denied the allegation.
“I am innocent of this false accusation, and I am confident that the truth will prevail in due course.”
Bascoe’s party workers have been in a jubilant mood after the PNP won three of the five divisions in the St Mary Western, now represented by Robert Montague. With those victories, they were able to help win control of the St Mary Council for the PNP.
North Coast Times is seeking to determine the status of Mr Bascoe’s continuation as principal at Tacky High School.
