SOME INMATES TRANSFERRED AFTER RESISTANCE PUT DOWN
ORACABESSA, St Mary: – June 15, 2024
Police say they foiled an attempted jailbreak at Oracabessa police station, St Mary, on Friday evening, June 14. Some of those who were in the cells have since been transferred.
There was a jailbreak at the station in December 2023 when seven prisoners escaped. Three of those inmates are still on the run.
Reports from the police are that around 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 14 police personnel who were on duty were alerted to unusual sounds coming from one of the cells. Upon investigating they discovered that the inmates were attempting to cut away a ventilation grill at the rear of the cell.
Assistance was sought from the Echo Command Center. The officers were met with resistance from the inmates.
The police officers put down the resistance and took control of the situation. They said there were no injuries.
Six prisoners were relocated to lock-ups at Islington and Annotto Bay in the parish.
Investigation continues.
