ANOTHER FIREARM SEIZED IN SEPARATE INCIDENT
ORACABESSA, St Mary; June 3, 2025
A man was shot dead and another arrested following what police say was a confrontation in Oracabessa, St Mary, on Monday night, June 2.
In a separate operation later, in the same area, police seized a gun and ammunition and arrested the driver of a car from which the illegal weapon was seized
According to the police, during routine spot checks, officers signalled a motorcycle with two male occupants to stop. The driver complied. However, police said, during the police’s approach, one of the men reportedly brandished a firearm and pointed it toward the officers. In response, the police took evasive action and discharged their service weapons.
“One of the men was found on the ground with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. He was transported to the Port Maria Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered from the scene,” a police report said. Police did not identify him.
The other occupant of the motorcycle was taken into custody.
Investigators from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and a team from Area 2 Major Investigations visited and processed the scene.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
