PNP TAKES CONTROL OF ST MARY COUNCIL

 

BIG VICTORIES FOR PNP IN OVERTURNING JLP’S 10-3  CONTROL

The People’s National Party has taken control of the St Mary Municipal Corporation (SMMC).

The final count shows that the PNP has won seven seats to the JLP’s six. That result overturns the position of the JLP control in the last administration when it held 10 seats to the PNP’s three.

The PNP retained seats in Highgate, Paul Fyffe;  Bellfield, Levan Freeman,  former Mayor; Port Maria, newcomer Corrine Dillon McDonald created an upset by winning the Division, breaking the JLP’s reign thereby defeating Jermaine Smiley.

Also, Everton Garvey of the Islington Division retained the seat for the PNP it had been held by Lincoln Dixon who died last year.

The battle of the teachers in the  Oracabessa Division was won by the PNP where Ramon Henry (BigHouse defeated  Sheldon Kidd. Kidd won the seat in 2016 when he defeated the PNP’s Farrell.

Fitzroy Wilson is to return to the Council, for the PNP, having won the Boscobel seat, defeating Leroy Sewell.  Wilson lost the seat in 2016 to Sewell.

 

The Jamaica Labour Party retained Richmond, with former Mayor Richard Creary. Other seats for the JLP were Castleton, with  Lenford Danvers; Hampstead, Mitzy Hudson retained her seat; Carron Hall where Doreen Hutchinson also won and retained her seat. Other winners for the JLP were Daunte Moulton in Retreat and Hugh Bryan in the Annotto Bay Division
