PNP HOUSING PLANS GET POSITIVE RESPONSE AT  ST ANN FORUM

PARTY STAGES TALK BACK SESSION FOCUSSED ON HEALTH, HOUSING & EDUCATION

RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann May 11, 2025

The biggest cheers for various PNP plans outlined at a meeting in St Ann, Wednesday, May 7, came for proposals regarding housing.

Opposition Spokesman on Housing, Professor Floyd Morris, says the Party is to launch what he calls a revolution in housing, if it takes power in the next elections.

He was one of four main speakers at the first in what the People’s National Party (PNP) says is a series of Town Hall meetings to be held across the country. The meeting was held at Holiday Haven Resort, Runaway Bay, St Ann, on Wednesday evening.

PNP President Mark Golding was the main speaker and discussed the economy, decrying the lack of meaningful growth in the last ten years. He gave details on the Party’s plans to revitalize the economy, increase investment, and drive growth.

Also speaking were Dr Alfred Dawes, Spokesperson on Health, and Dr Kenneth Russell, Deputy Spokesperson on Education.

But it was Professor Morris who drew the most cheers and responses from the audience of Party supporters, business people, and community leaders.

He used data to show that the Holness Government and the NHT were underperforming in Housing and suggested they were a “colossal failure.”

He said the PNP is to lead a revolution in housing to deliver low-income units, transform communities, and complete Operation PRIDE Projects.

He said the PNP was to build 50,000 low-income houses, provide an easier path for young people to be able to own their own houses, and also for people who were not on regular payrolls to be able to qualify for mortgages on rent-to-purchase arrangements.

He also said the PNP would complete some 47  Operation PRIDE projects across the island and he named some of them in every constituency in St Ann.

Senator Morris said the pillar of funding would be to end the withdrawal of $11.4 Billion a year from the NHT, used over more than a decade for Budget support.

The PNP says the meetings are to help communicate its message to people, giving them a chance to interact with spokespersons and other representatives of the party.

The four PNP St Ann Constituency Candidates in attendance were: Daniella Williams, SW St Ann; Senator Gabriela Morris NW, St Ann; Dr Ryan Simpson, NE St Ann, and Dr Kenneth Russell, SE St Ann. Councillors in attendance were Ian Bell, Paul McFarlane, Clovis Gohagen, and Kaydian Harty. Ms Harty chaired the Town Hall, and Senator Gabriela Morris gave the welcome

Questions were taken from the audience.
