The St James Parish Council wants to repair the Montego Bay’s clock tower and purchase a new clock at a cost of US$23,000, or nearly two and a half million Jamaican dollars.Jamaica Information Service (JIS) says the information came from mayor of Montego Bay and chairman of the St. James Parish Council, Glendon Harris. The JIS release suggested that funds are being sources, architectural plans being drawn up but no date has been set for the completion. Councillor Harris said theproject has been one of his mainobjectives since coming to office two years ago.Mr Harris said: “As I had indicated in my inauguration speech, the Montego Bay Clock Tower was among 11 projects that I would be focusing on. Presently, I am actively seeking funding for this important project of the clock tower repair and the replacement of the clock. Also included will be the entire aesthetics of the surrounding area, which is the entrance to the city,” Mayor Harris pointed out. JIS said the mayor indicated that the sidewalks along the main entrance on Barnett Street as well as the entire front section of the post office, near the Clock Tower,would be refurbished.Councillor Suzette Brown, who has been asked by Mayor Harris to spearhead the project, told JIS News that citizens who traverse the Barnett Street area often lament the poor appearance of the area.
