Police are insisting that robbery was the motive for the murder of a church leader two Sundays ago in St Ann. They also say the murderers had “inside” information.Archbishop Delroy Bingham of the Valley Spiritual Healing Temple in Harrison Town, Ocho Rios, St Ann was shot and killed at his home in Discovery Bay early Sunday morning, September 11.Police sources are reporting that several people, continue to turn up, claiming to be relatives of slain Archbishop Delroy Bingham and wanting parts of his estate.Senior Superintendent of police in charge of St Ann, Wayne Cameron says the Bishop apparently had significant cash on hand and people knew about it. Police investigations have established that the church leader carried on the healing side of his ministry at his home in Cardiff Hall and collected and stored money there. It is reported that when the robbers went to that location, before going to Discovery Bay, they asked for money and insisted it was there. They were told that none was there and beat and tortured the archbishop’s brother, before forcing him to take them to the archbishop’s home in Discovery Bay.

SSP Cameron said the police still believe the motive for the killing was robbery. He said the killers repeatedly asked the archbishop for the “chis“ (or chest or safe) in which they were told money was locked away.Archbishop Bingham was reportedly shot in the stomach after refusing to give any details of where the money was kept.  His brother was also shot but survived. Police said the getaway car was found near Runaway Bay.The Police have acknowledged that they removed money from the Discovery Bay house although SSP Cameron said he would not give details. It is being reported that several people, some even from overseas, are stating that the archbishop had substantial amount of cash at home and they are claiming the money, his vehicles and real estate. “Many people have come forward and are claiming all kinds of things,” said SSP Wayne Cameron, head of St Ann police.Mr Cameron told The Times Wednesday (September 14) that because of the number of people directly involved in the incidents surrounding the murder (more than a dozen), there were some delays in completing statements.
