A resident of a small housing scheme in St. Mary was hailed today (Feb. 17) for her role in lobbying the St. Mary Parish Council to have their roads repaired.
Mabel Silvera, seen here with Minister of Local Government Noel Arscott (right) , Dr. Winston Green , Councillor Levan Freeman and Councillor Richard Creary (left), told the North Coast Times that she started by getting residents of Linvale Housing Scheme, near Highgate to sign a petition calling for the repairs. That was over three years ago and that action was followed by several meetings and included direct contact with councillor Creary and chairman of the council, Levan Freeman. The road was repaired from funds gained through property tax of the community which was more than 80 percent compliant. The road into the community was completed three months ago but was officially opened Wednesday by local government minister Arscott.
