People loot overturned truck in which driver had been shot dead in St Ann

 

Police say they have in their custody two people, from St Ann, who were among looters who took millions of dollars of food items from a crashed truck whose driver had been shot dead.Dead is 47-year-old Dane Garfield Brown, truck driver of Sievwright Drive, Kingston 11. While the body of Brown was trapped in the crashed truck it was looted of $1.4 million worth of food items.Police say on Saturday Brown was driving a Leyland truck laden with food items, from Facey Commodity in Kingston. His destination was Hanover. It is reported that at about 5:30 a.m., near the descent into Faith’s Pen, gunmen attacked the truck and shot Brown in the chest. The truck ran off the roadway and up an embankment, crashed into a utility pole, and overturned.According to police, area residents looted the goods from the crashed truck. They made off with flour , cooking oil, butter , condensed milk, whole wheat flour, cornmeal, and other basic food items. Police said the goods stolen amounted to $1.4 million.The police were alerted and, on arrival, found the lifeless body of Mr Brown slumped over the steering wheel of the truck. He had a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest.The Fire Department cut the truck cab open and the body was removed.  Police said, based on information regarding the looted goods, two people were taken into custody and are to be questioned.
