PAUL THOMPSON RETURNS AS PORTLAND CHAIR

WATER SUPPLY, GARBAGE COLLECTION, ROADS AMONG FOCUS ISSUES

 

Mayor of Port Antonio Paul Thompson says the new administration of the Council will tackle improved water supply, street lighting, garbage collection, and other issues needing attention.

He pledged to provide the highest service as Mayor.

Mr Thompson, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Councillor of the Manchioneal Division,  was selected and installed as Chairman of the Portland Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Mayor of Port Antonio, for the new term of the Council. Rohan Vassell of the Balcares Division is his deputy.

The two were installed Thursday, March 7, in Port Antonio, at the swearing-in ceremony of the nine councillors making up the PMC.

Mayor Thompson pledged to “provide effective governance of the council to give effective representation and services because of the mandate given by the people for our communities for all the people that we serve.”

He said  special focus would be placed “on the need for improved street lighting, garbage collection, community beautification, improved water supply system rehabilitation of roadway and the matter of homeless persons in our communities.”

The swearing-in was presided over by Icylyn Bailey, the Principal Returning officer for Portland.

Member of Parliament for East Portland Ann-Marie Vaz congratulated all the elected councillors.

West Portland Member of Parliament Daryl Vaz commended the voting in the parish as the best. He challenged councillors to work to improve the condition of the places where people live.

Custos of Portland Lincoln Thaxter commended the councillors on their election.
