LACK OF WATER FOR 9 DAYS SHUTS DOWN INSTITUTION, COUNCILLOR BLASTS NWC
OCHO RIOS, St Ann; May 20, 2025
Parry Town Primary and Infant School, St Ann, has been closed because of a lack of water for over a week.
Chairman of the School Board and Councillor for the area, Ian Bell, told the North Coast Times he had no choice but to order the school closed at midday on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
Parry Town Primary and Infant School is in a community just outside Ocho Rios. Parry Town has been without water since last week Monday, May 12, reportedly because of a breakdown of an NWC pump.

Mr Bell said the school has a student population of more than 350 and he could not allow them to continue in the conditions created by the lack of water. “No way the school can operate without water,” he said.
Councillor Bell said he had been calling the Regional Manager of the NWC several times on Tuesday morning but got no response.
“They [NWC] have not been trucking water to the school or community since last week Monday it is a disgrace,” Councillor Bell said.
Regarding the lack of water to the community and the school, Councillor Bell said, “It is a shame, embarrassment and disgrace on the National Water Commission and their performance.”
