historical significance and is known to have been a watering point for cattle going back to the 18th century. Ramon Treasure, Principal of York Castle High, in reading the history of Queenhyte, from his research, said, “Over two centuries, the pond has persisted as both a landmark and ecological remnant of plantation infrastructure.”

In brief remarks as he unveiled the Queenhythe Pond Park sign, Dr Holness said the event and provision of the facilities had great significance, especially as people highlight mental health. He said, “It is absolutely important these days for people to have spaces where they can relax and recreate.”

The park was built at a cost of just under $4 million, as part of the MP’s allocation under the Urban Renewal and Infrastructure Development projects of the Ministry of Economic Growth.

Ms Lee told the North Coast Times that she conceptualized it as a place for wellness and also economic opportunities for the existing shops surrounding the pond and park, and for the people of the area. She said it was an area for families to come out and relax, and for children to play and for them to be proud of their community facility.

She hoped that it would also attract visitors.
A second phase is contemplated where sanitary facilities, rehabilitated fencing and public Wifi would be available, and local cuisine could be provided in a more structured way, all to improve life and wellness of the community.
