PARENTS HONOURED, ENCOURAGED AT PARENTS MONTH EVENT

CLAREMONT BASIC SCHOOL HOLDS SEMINAR

Claremont Basic School hosted a Parents Seminar on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, on the school’s grounds, Claremont St Ann.

Over twenty-four parents and guardians received medals of honour.

HEART NSTA Trust upskilling programmes were introduced through Beechamville Vocational Training Centre, and several motivational speeches were shared virtually and otherwise.

Parents and guests were catered for, and an entertainment package was put together by, Paulette Brown Howell, Veneisha Dixon and Dioan  Lowe.

School Board Chairman, Christine Hall Smith urged parents and guardians to work closely with the school, and with their children.

Ronald Haughton, Board member, placed emphasis on males becoming more integrally involved in Parent Teacher’s Association meetings, and in their children’s educational journey.

Adding to the motivational segment, the Development Officer for Zone 18, Region 3,  Petuina Roberts Brown said that parents are architects of destinies, shaping generations to come.

Mellecia Lewars , the Early Childhood Commission’s Community Relations Officer in Region 3, lauded the parents and guardians for their efforts and encouraged them to actively participate in the Parent’s Place meetings.

Five-year-old Blessings Walker wished the honourees ‘Happy Parent’s Month’ on behalf of the student population. She also reminded them through her video presentation that they are indeed special people.

The school’s principal Sharon Seymour reinforced and expounded on the school’s motto ‘Children Live What They Learn’. Parents and Guardians were encouraged to be agents of transformation, for a brighter tomorrow.

The event was chaired by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) President, Shanice Coombs.

Guest speaker  Sydian Walters Simpson was introduced by Stevanique Sharpe. Mrs Walters Simpson’s presentation ended with Parents and Guardians repeating the affirmation: ‘I should show up for my child, even when I don’t feel like it’.
