Ocho Rios rocked to the sound of a beautifully coordinated marching band on Sunday afternoon, April 13, as the Ocho Rios Cure of the Methodist Church staged their annual Palm Sunday march, reenacting the Triumphal Entry of Jesus to Jerusalem. At the head of the march was the uniformed Prospect marching Band, followed by dozens of members of the six congregations of the Cure. The congregations are: Ocho Rios, Newstead, Galina, Ramble, Pimento Walk and Oracabessa. The members waved palm fronds and sang as they marched, with a donkey in their midst. The Bible said Jesus entered Jerusalem on the foal of an ass. The march is part of the young people’s ministry and saw the participation of superintendent minister of the Ocho Rios Congregation, Michael Llewelyn. Following the march down Main Street, past the clock and onto DaCosta Drive then onto Newlyn Street and back to Main Street where the Ocho Rios Methodist Church is located, a service was held. It was mainly focused at the children and young people, and each group displayed their banners as part of an annual competition. Guest presenter was Richard McLaughlin, a counsellor at the Ocho Rios Primary School. He challenged the congregation to live a holy life in the context of present day realities.
