ONE-DAY CRICKET CARNIVAL AT MILE END

UNITY FORCE WIN, SPECTATORS HAPPY TOO

The Unity Force Cricket competition climaxed in Mile End, St Ann, near the border with St Mary, Sunday, October 6, 2024 with the Unity Force team taking home the trophy.

Eight teams entered the competition which featured ten-over matches. The final between Unity Force and Top Mountain was a 20-over-a-side affair. Batting first Unity Force chalked up 175 runs which was a bridge too far for Top Mountain.

Outside of the trophy for the winners, there were many prizes for spectators at the event in Four Roads Mile End, St Ann.

The cricket carnival was hosted by the Unity Force Cricket team.

Public relations officer for the competition and sponsor Orville Daye said it was a big day for the community. He said the intention was to have the competition every year.

The first prize was $50,000; second prize $25,000 and third was $15,000. There were many other prizes for the cricketers.

However, there were fun prizes too including phone accessories and cash. Two of the popular ways for spectators to win were the bowl off – hitting the wicket most times out of six attempts, and the persons taking one-handed catches beyond the boundary.
