OCHO RIOS PRIMARY STAGES READING FAIR

The Ocho Rios Primary School, St Ann held its 2014 reading fair on Tuesday, May 20. The students participating were given a specific story book to read as a way of preparing for the reading fair. The participants from grade 1 to grade 5 were asked three questions each from the story book they had been given to read for the competition and then they went into the buzzer competition afterwards. They were asked to spell and answer questions from the same books to gain ten (10) points if the answer was correct and lose five (5) points if the answer was incorrect. The quiz master was Donald Rowe and the judges were Christine Badal-McBean, Ruth White and Shaunalee Bennett. Houses competing were Garvey, Bustamante, Bogle, Gordon, Sharpe and Manley. The winning house was Garvey, followed by Bogle and the runner up was Manley House. As for the spelling competition, Manley won with Sharpe in second place and Gordon in third. When all was said and done Ocho Rios Primary took the first place winner in the reading relay defeating Ocho Rios Prep. Entertainment was provided by the Oho Rios Primary Drama club who preformed a famous folktale, Anansi and the magic pot ‘Do mek mi see’. The competition was sponsored by Carlong Publisher. Patrice Brown-Thomson, guidance counsellor at the school left the students with an important quote by Manuela Ramirez: “In a good book, the best is between the lines.”
