OCHI HIGH SMASH FENCOURT IN HEADLEY CUP

BOWLERS DOMINATE IN LOW-SCORING GAME

Ocho Rios High started their Grace Headley Cup campaign with a stunning victory over Ferncourt High in a low-scoring match on Friday, January 26.

The bowlers dominated with the best of them being pacer Rushawn Lynch who took eight wickets for nine runs, to destroy Ferncourt.

Ocho Rios batted first and made 62, as Jadeek Walker top-scored with 17, against Ferncourt’s Jordan Pryce who took five wickets for six runs.

But when it was their turn to bat, at the Content Gardens Oval, Ocho Rios, Ferncourt found the bowling of Lynch too hot to handle. Renardo Kelly took the other two Ferncourt wickets for 12 runs.

Coach for Ocho Rios High Damion Wolliston said the bowlers did well and followed instructions. He was full of praise for Lynch who he said was an important part of the team last year.

Mr Wolliston says his team is inexperienced but ambitious. He said Ocho Rios didn’t get beyond the group stage last year. According to the Coach, he has been encouraging and motivating the boys. He says he uses his own experience as a teacher playing away for the JTA in the Les Harris Cricket competition in Trinidad and Tobago to show how opportunities can come from cricket. He says the school administration supports the team but efforts continue to get sponsorship from private institutions and businesses.

The team is now getting ready to face Herbert Morrison High in St James, on Tuesday, January 30.
