nuh dutyThe Sandals Foundation, in a major display of solidarity with the recently launched “Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica” campaign, staged a major clean up at the Fisherman’s Beach in St. Ann’s Bay on Friday, removing over a hundred bags of garbage from the prime waterfront area.The cleanup team comprised team members from Sandals Grande Riviera, Beaches Ocho Rios and Sandals Royal Plantation, as well as members of the local community, who put hands and hearts together to remove the refuse which had made the area a major eyesore.Adults were teamed with children, as over seventy volunteers spent the afternoon gathering all the various debris which had flowed through the drainage system before being deposited onto the beach“The Sandals Foundation is committed in playing its part in supporting the Nuh Dutty Up Jamaica campaign,” explained Sandals regional public relations manager Lyndsay Isaacs, who was on hand to participate in the event.Mrs. Isaacs also charged members of the community to ensure that the beach was maintained in an excellent condition and residents practice proper garbage disposal.The Sandals Foundation team also donated clothing and books to the Fisherman’s beach residents, in a continuation of their efforts at improving the lives of the children in the area.St. Ann’s Bay Mayor Desmond Gilmore, who was on hand to observe the clean up exercise, praised the Sandals Foundation for its sterling efforts.“What I have seen here today is pretty amazing.” The mayor said. “The Foundation has made a step forward and demonstrated to the country and the local community what good corporate citizenship is all about. It is up to Jamaicans to stop littering our island.”Joy Clarke, a member of the local community participating in the clean-up was also grateful for the assistance given by the Sandals Foundation. “The Sandals team is not just here once in a while, but are a big part of the community. We thank them for their efforts and hope that more companies duplicate what they are doing.”
