The function was held at the Port Rhoades Sports Club in Discovery Bay, St. Ann. A number of persons gave greetings at the ceremony which included President of the St. Ann Football Association, Danny Beckford. Mr. Beckford expressed his commendations to Noranda Jamaica Bauxite Partners for the great role they played in developing the football in St. Ann which engages the young men of the area in a positive way. Member of Parliament of North-West St. Ann, Dr. Dayton Campbell also congratulated NJBP for their support and urged the footballers to make use of this opportunity. “Harvest your talents, remain disciplined and work hard. Who knows, you could be at Manchester United one day,” expressed Dr. Campbell.In response to the commendations, Vice-president and General Manager of NJBP, Antoine Liddell said that Noranda looks forward each year to stage this ceremony. “We have seen the role football has played in fostering positive relations. We believe that participation in sports is critical to the overall development of the individual. It is against this background that NJBP has continued to spend on sports.” He also congratulated all those involved in the league from footballers to coaches. The keynote speaker of the ceremony, Raymond Anderson, Vice President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) while also congratulating NJBP, took the time out to encourage community football associations and cooperate groups to partner together to create a new dimension in Jamaica’s football. “Each parish association must lead the catylst for Jamaica’s football development and JFF will continue to support the grass root development of football by carrying out more certifying of coaches and referees.”The overall champions of the competition and winner of the Plant Area competition went to Meadows FC, who took home the league trophy and Plant zone trophy. Rosetta FC was runner up in the overall competition, after winning the Mines zone competition. Among the individual winners from the Plant zone were Everton Marsh from Meadows FC who won the title of most valuable player, the Top defender-Donovan McKoy of Meadows and top coach, Henry Brady, also of Meadows. Andrew Matthews of Phantom FC won top midfielder. In the Mines zone, Rosetta FC dominated the awards with school boy Raheem Cunningham taking the emerging player award, Oshane Phillips, top defender with Roshane Henry achieving the competition’s top midfielder and Kevoy Gooden, top coach. Odane Tingle from Retreat FC was awarded the leading goalscorer while Higgins Land FC won the most disciplined player.
