No police report on the $35 million

Police say they have had no report about the alleged theft of $35 million from a St Ann bank, by a staff member who just left with the money in a bag.

People in St Ann have been asking which of the banks is involved and have been begging for more information about what happened.

Radio Jamaica reported this week that a staff member of an unnamed financial institution entered a vault at the bank, stuffed $35 million in banknotes in her bag, and left the institution, saying she was going for lunch.

She did not return and is reported to have gone straight to an airport and out of the country, the radio station reported.

The St Ann police said no such report has been made to it.

Checks by the North Coast Times with sources say the story is true even if some of the details are not correct.

First, the theft did not take place in the last few days but  happened more than two weeks ago.

Reports are that because of a fraud case in which an NCB bank teller is now before the courts for more than $25 million, authorities, in this case, did not want to report that a staffer had walked off with $35 million. The bank involved is not known.

One source close to the story said the money was taken in a reinforced garbage bag.
