Police have still not charged anyone with murder in connection with the
death of a Trelawny vendor, farmer and housewife whose body was found
in a river near her home in Stewart Town, week before last.
Sixty-seven-year-old farmer and vendor, Sereica Palmer of Stewart Town,
Trelawny was found floating in the popular Darnack River, Thursday,
August 28.
The woman’s son is in custody as police investigate the murder. Reports
are that the two have had a long standing dispute.
It is reported that Palmer was seen floating in the river by another farmer.
She was found with chop wounds to her head, hands and back and several
bruises to different sections of her body. It is believed that the elderly
woman was killed and thrown into the river.
She was last seen about 6 a.m., on Thursday, August 28, as she went to
her farm to carry out her usual early morning chores. Hours later, after a
search her body was seen floating in the river. She was the breadwinner of
her family as her husband has been ill for some time now.
Police told the North Coast Times up to Monday that no one had been
charged in connection with Mrs Palmer’s death. They said the man in
custody was still being questioned.
