No arrest in Marcus stabbing

Police have made no arrest in an incident in which two boys from Marcus Garvey High School, St Ann’s Bay, were stabbed at the school Friday, January 31Police told The Times Monday that one of the boys who had been hospitalized was released and the other reported to the police Monday to give a statement. They said investigations were taking place and it  was too early to tell what was to be done.Reports to The Times are that several boys were involved in a confrontation in the school on Friday in which knives were drawn and used. Two of the boys were taken to hospital, one of them having wounds to the arm and hand another with wounds to the chest and neck.Principal of the school, Leslie Riley told North Coast  Times that the incident that disrupted the school related to matters and attitudes coming from the community. He said the boys involved were “not being helped by school. Some of these boys have no parental guidance or support, they cannot read and though we try, it is hard…They are not benefitting from school.” He said the school was waiting on the police to see if there were arrests and charges before it considers internal disciplinary measures. Mr Riley said: “We are trying everything (reduce acts of violence) but some of them come with it all from home and don’t want what school is offering.”
