New health care, vocational training centre opens in Ochi with courses starting this month

Mckoy

McKoy’sHealth Care and Vocational Training Center, located at Pointe Plaza in Ocho Rios, St. Ann is the newest training facility in the resort town. McKoy’sHealth Care and Vocational Training Centeris being positioned by its operator as the institution of choice for people who want quality training which will make them more marketable, locally and internationally. Diana McKoy has been involved in training for over two decades and she is well aware of some of the inadequacies of training which sometimes results in trainees not being marketable.

Ms McKoy is a certified facilitator and trainer who has received her certification through the VDTI, Gordon Town in St. Andrew. She says her assessment of a number of trainees, over the years, has forced her to open an institution which she said will offer students the highest level training, encompassing a number of areas including customer service.

Ms McKoy is hoping to get her first batch of students in time for the scheduled January 19 start of classes in Beauty Therapy ( Massage Therapy) or Health Care Assistance, both of which are certified by City and Guilds. There is also a local training course in Home Care for persons who want trained and experienced people to work inside their homes. That course will commence at a later date. She explained that persons who enroll for the Beauty Therapy course, where training will be provided in Massage Therapy, or those enrolled for the Health Care Assistant course will received a local certificate from her institution as well as two other certificates issued by City and Guilds.  She said that here are different programmes which are being offered as part of the Massage Therapy course. Persons she said can enroll for a sixeight week introductory programme or a two or three month training course.

The Health Care Assistant course, she said, is an 18-month course while the local Home Care programme is expected to last for two to three months.  She said the cost of the programmesis very affordable and she wants people who are seeking quality training in any of the areas being offered to enroll with her institution.
