There has been a twist in the death of 49-year-old food vendor and farmer, Devon Clarke, of Lucky Hill, St Mary.
It now appears that Clarke was murdered.
Earlier reports had indicated that Clarke had died suddenly at home, between Saturday night and Sunday morning, February 11 and 12.
Clarke was found at home in his bathroom Sunday morning, February 12 and was pronounced dead at hospital. A relative who shares the house with Clarke reportedly found him fallen backward on his toilet. Clarke had been there for sometime before the relative realized something was wrong and entered the bathroom.
It was said that Clarke who appeared healthy and well had a few drinks with friends at his gate the evening before.
However, an autopsy has now revealed that Clarke, well known as “Biscuit”, might have died because of violence. An initial autopsy says his neck was broken.
The autopsy indicated that all his internal organs were fine. There had been suspicion that drinking or substances he consumed on Saturday night after a day of work had killed him.
Now, relatives of Mr Clarke are asking people to wait for the post mortem to be carried out by a government pathologist to determine how the 49-year-old died. They say the post mortem, done at a funeral home, is not conclusive. They are urging the police and the authorities to speedily get the official post mortem done.
The St Mary police have not taken any action in regard to the death. They are said to be awaiting the report from the government pathologist.
At the same time, vendors as well as shoppers at the White Fiver Farmers Market, near Ocho Rios, where Clarke worked every Friday and many from his community want to know what happened to the well loved man.
It is said that on the evening before his death, Clarke alias Biscuit had been drinking with friends at his gate where he also operated a shop. The news that he was found dead shocked many who considered that Biscuit was healthy and in good spirits. He lived with relatives at the house.
