MARSHA SMITH’S RESIGNATION WAS LONG FORECAST

ST ANN’S BAY, Sept 3, 2024

Marsha Smith has resigned as Member of Parliament for North East St Ann.

Ms Smith who is Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Youth, resigned with immediate effect. A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister issued moments before 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, made the announcement.

The North Coast Times has been reporting that Ms Smith had long indicated she would not be seeking re-election and the JLP’s presumptive standard bearer for the last several months has been Matthew Samuda.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness said he thanked Minister Marsha Smith for her service in representational politics.
