MURDERED IN BAR

RAFT OPERATOR ‘SLAUGHTER’ WAS WELL-LIKED

OCHO RIOS, St Ann – Aug. 1, 2024

A St Ann raft operator/captain was shot and killed in Exchange near Ocho Rios, on Thursday night, August 1, 2024.

Dead is 38-year-old Troy Cooper, otherwise called ‘Slaughter’ of Prosper Hall, formerly called Hand to Mouth Street, in Exchange, St Ann.

Police report that at about 8:20 Thursday,  Cooper was at a bar at Prosper Hall, having a drink with friends when a gunman, dressed in full black, entered the bar and was having a conversation with him.

Explosions were heard.

Cooper fell from the bar stool, with a leg hanging from it.

He was rushed to St. Ann’s Bay Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The Area Two Technical Services Division processed the scene. One empty .45 spent casing, two expended bullet fragments and blood samples were recovered from the scene.

Sources told the North Coast Times that this is the second attempt on the life of Cooper and that another man had been shot and killed by mistake in an incident months ago when Cooper was supposed to be the target.

Area residents describe Cooper as a jovial man who liked to joke. He helped operate rafts on the White River and was well-liked in his community.
