MT Edgecombe Win St Ann D-I

Mt Edgecombe Football Club of Runaway Bay are winners of the St Ann Division One Competition and make it into the Major League as a consequence. Beaten finalist Dry Harbour Football Club are also into the Major League.
If Madras FC (winners of the 2022-23 Major League) qualify for the Tier Two competition, the St Ann Major League will have nine (9) teams… Volvo FC, Koleto Classic FC, Beverly FC, Black Stars FC, Steer Town FC, Exchange Utd., Priory FC, Mount Edgecombe FC and Dry Harbour FC.
It took penalties to decide the winners after Mount Edgecombe and Dry Harbour played to a 3-3 draw in regulation and extra time, on Wednesday, August 9.
Mount Edgecombe won 7-6 on penalties.
It was Dry Harbour who drew first blood and went into halftime in the lead, 1-0. But, in the second half, Mt Edgecombe drew level with a penalty from Masena Graham. Mt Edgecombe went ahead with a second from Graham but the game finished 3-3 between the teams.
Andre Thompson, Manager of the Mount Edgecombe team said the team won four matches lost one and drew one on the way to the final.
Asked why he believed his team won the competition Thompson said: “We went in there to win it to be promoted. That was our aim.” He said there was no sponsor and no company financial support but the team members were focused on the aim to win and be promoted. He thanked the Runaway Bay CDC for its support for the team.
Shakeel Willis was the top scorer for Mount Edgecombe, placing seven in the back of the net.
Collie Bailey, manager for Dry Harbour FC said the team lost composure in the second half of the finals. He reflected on their top performance in the first half but he said they couldn’t hold it together with the pressure. However, Mr Bailey said people were saying “This was one of the nicest division one finals.” He said the team will be ready for the Major League. He thanked those family members and others for their support to the team.
