Babies Among 36 Landed At Long Bay
A group of Haitian nationals landed at Long Bay in east Portland this morning aboard a small boat. There were 36 on board, 11 children, including babies, and 25 adults. Among the adults were nine women
They arrived just after 6 Saturday morning, September 9. Health officials and police went to the area shortly after.
The coming of the Haitians follows another set who landed in Boston, Jamaica in July.
The adults among them were taken to court and fined for illegal landing. A Jamaican rights group is seeking to get asylum for them. Those Haitians are staying in the neighbouring parish of St Mary.
