More delay in case of 2009 fatal crash in St Ann

The driver charged in relation to a fatal 2009 crash in St Ann, had his bail extended in the St Ann Circuit court on Thursday May 25.

Devon Mowatt was charged for causing death by dangerous driving after his involvement in a three-vehicle collision along the Drax Hall Main Road on July 23, 2009.

Mowatt pleaded not guilty to the charge laid on him. He however pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Mowatt had his bail extended until June 9 when the matter will return to court.

The crash claimed the life of 42-year-old taxi operator, Delwin Rose, otherwise known as Bravo, of Higgins Town in St Ann. Rose plied the Ocho Rios to St Ann’s Bay route.

According to initial police reports, Rose was driving his Toyota Corolla motor car towards St Ann’s Bay while Mowatt was driving a white Izuzu Wrecker in the opposite direction.

Rose was attempting to overtake a vehicle when his vehicle collided head-on with Mowatt’s which was also overtaking another vehicle.

Rose died on impact and his passenger was hospitalized at that time.  A doctor who was also traversing the roadway was also injured in the accident.

After the accident Mowatt reportedly fled the scene.
