The Moneague College, on Thursday, June 30,2016, hosted an Awards Ceremony and Recognition Banquet at the Jewel Paradise Cove and Spa, Runaway Bay, St Ann. The ceremony was held in commemoration of the college’s 60th anniversary celebration.
The evening’s ceremony mainly focused on seventeen (17) retirees who served at the Moneague College for several years. The master of ceremonies was, Daniel Campbell who interacted with the guests in a very jovial manner. The welcome was done by Leon Gordon, chairman of the board of governors. Mr Gordon greeted everyone and gave special welcome to the retirees, whilst commending them for their outstanding contribution to Moneague College over the years.
Principal of the Moneague College and president-elect of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), Howard Isaacs, commented on the journey which the college has been through, including many successes and challenges. Mr Isaacs gave thanks and congratulated the retirees for their dedicated work in shaping the lives of world-class leaders.
Member of parliament for South East St Ann, Lisa Hanna, then gave her greetings and best wishes to the retirees and guests.
Lecturers, students, retirees and guests were feted to a delectable meal prepared by the Jewel staff, as they listened to classic renditions by Andrae Campbell and company.
The guest speaker for the evening was Vivian Crawford, former pro-chancellor at the University Of Technology (UTech). Mr Crawford congratulated the retirees for reaching yet another milestone in their lives. “Your contribution to nation building should not go unnoticed. Your theme ‘embracing change… soaring to new heights’ is really fortuitous, because it has to do with changes and what a change it has been for us this year,” said Crawford.
He highlighted some of the changes that have occurred since the beginning of 2016 including the general election and the 240th anniversary of the Kingston Public Hospital. Mr Crawford also made mention of historic events such as Villa 25 Round Hill, found on Jamaica’s north coast, the place where the 35th President of the United States of America, John Kennedy, revised his speech for his inauguration in 1961.
Mr Crawford continued his interaction with the audience by asking questions for which some responses evoked laughter. He also told several short stories just for laughs.
After his speech, Mr Crawford was presented, with a gift basket, by Denise Murphy-Bramwell.
All seventeen retirees had the opportunity of listening to their citations being read, after which same were presented to them by representatives from the Moneague College.
The retirees were: Reinoh Bartlet-Spencer, Dr. Muriel Scott, Elizabeth Treasure, Ioni Clarke, Victoria Thompson, Uriah Atkinson, Nora Murray, Lorna Tenn, Jacqueline Miller Daly, Lascelles Williams, Orthnel Hewitt, Jennifer White, Janelin Samuels, Hazel White, Phillip Patterson, Alfred Allen and Lemmar Moncrieffe.
The Diamond Award for the longest serving member of staff was presented to Jacqueline Francis, while long serving board member, Noel Williamson, was recognized for his contribution to the board of governors.
The college also showed appreciation to members of staff who have been serving for 15 years and over. These included: Ethrose Crosby, Audrey Isaacs, Angela Perry, Nerissa Walker, Delroy Granston, Tracy-Ann Mullings, Ann Marie Morris, Terrence Lawrence, Roy Hylton, Andrew Lloyd, Gregory Johnson, Cothburn Scarlett, Sherine Jackson, Annette Stennett, Patricia Simmonds, Jasmine Morgan and Minnerva Fullerton Ennis.
