The mother and step-father of the three-year-old who was found murdered nearly three weeks ago in St Ann have been granted bail.
Nevalisia Campbell, three years old, was found in bushes in Orange Hill, with several wounds, Sunday morning July 10, after she disappeared from her home, the night before
The couple appeared before the St Ann Parish Court today Friday, July 29.
The 24-year-old mother, Mahalia Poyser, a bartender and her 30-year-old boyfriend Roy Downs, a plumber, both of Orange Hill, Brown’s Town, St Ann, were charged for various breaches under the Child Care and Protection Act.
They reportedly left Nevalisia and her twin brother home alone on the night she disappeared before found dead the following morning.
On a previous court appearance, July 14, the couple was denied bail, The police had said then they feared for the safety of the couple after threats from angry members of the community.
Lawyer for the two, Peter McHugh said police were satisfied that the threats had now dissipated.
The bail application was heard in camera, meaning no member of the public or media was allowed in the court room.
They are to return for mention on October 6.
Alexus Newland has been charged for the murder of the three-year-old.
