FOOTBALL TREATS FOR ST ANN, PORTLAND SATURDAY
There was a mixed bag of results for teams from the northeast parishes (St Ann, St Mary, and Portland) in the daCosta Cup Round of 32 games on Wednesday, Oct 16.
There was a victory for one team, Happy Grove; two teams drew, Brown’s Town and Ocho Rios, and two went down in defeat, St Mary High and Titchfield.
The North Coast Times had already reported the Port Antonio High draw in their match on Tuesday.
PT ANTONIO DRAW IN FIRST ROUND 2 MATCH
Happy Grove went by Holmwood by 3 goals to 2 in their tough encounter at Carder Park.
(Celebrating the third Happy Grove goal)
Happy Grove had gone into the lead through goals from Bonny Chisolm and Kyeill Grant but were pegged back by Holmwood before Chisolm pumped in his second during time added to get the three points for the boys from Hector’s River.
TITCHFIELD DOWN
The other Portland team playing on the day, Titchfield suffered a 3-0 loss to Paul Bogle through goals from Damarion Burke, Kimani Gaule and an own goal. Paul Bogle were runners-up in the zone won by Happy Grove.
The only St Mary team left in the 32, St Mary High went down to a heavy 8-1 defeat against a powerful McGrath team some have tipped to go far in the competition.
Brown’s Town played to a 1-1 draw with Maldon and Ocho Rios drew 0-0 with Black River.
Football lovers in Portland and St Ann are in for mouth-watering clashes on Saturday, October 19, that could decide if their teams have a chance of advancing beyond this round.
Carder Park is the venue for a doubleheader with Happy Grove v Denbigh in the first and Titchfield v Glenmuir in the feature. A loss for Titchfield would end their hopes of advancing. Happy Grove could secure their place in the next round with a win. Even a loss would not rule them out. The College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) will be the venue for the Port Antonio v Yallahs game from which the Portland team should take at least a point.
(Pt Antonio Coach would prefer Carder Park for their match but will take it at CASE)
ST ANN MATCHES
Drax Hall will be the venue for the Ocho Rios v Cedric Titus match, at 2 p.m. the first of a doubleheader. Ocho Rios are tipped to take that match and keep their unbeaten run this season. In the second game, Brown’s Town are up against Munro in a tight fixture, with Brown’s Town, playing better as the season goes on, likely to take at least a point.
St Mary High are on the road again, travelling a long distance to Brooks Park, Manchester for a match against Christiana one of the favourites to at least reach the quarter-final round.
