MITCHELL PROUD OF NEW PLAZA IN DISCOVERY BAY

CELEBRATORY EVENT MARKS OPENING OF M&M PLAZA

DISCOVERY BAY, St Ann; Dec. 16, 2024

They came from near and far to celebrate with Philpott Mitchell the opening of his plaza in Discovery Bay, St Ann.

M&M Plaza is run by a subsidiary of M&M Modern Sewer and Drain Services, located at Salem/Runaway Bay, St Ann. The company provides portable bathrooms, tents, chairs, tables and other event supplies. M&M Plaza is home to three new businesses that have come to the area which is continuing to see expanded enterprise and increased housing developments in surrounding communities.

Mr Mitchell bought the lot, near the old Discovery Bay Market, in 2021 and recently put up the building, bringing the first floor to a stage where it was available for occupancy. There are three businesses there now, a games shop; Total Tools, and a shipping company outlet. A pharmacy is to be added soon.

Dozens of Mr Mitchell’s friends and associates turned up for the party. They included author and communications professional, Lance Neita; businessman Fitzroy Pryce of Fitzroy Grocery; Vance Clarke, Lloyd Russell, and DSP Linton Bailey.  Mr Neita prayed, for blessings on the activities at the new plaza, to get things formally started.

Members of Mr Mitchell’s family were there and took part in catering for, welcoming and serving guests. They included Mr Mitchell’s mother Monica Thomas Mitchell who said she was proud of Philpott. “I don’t tell him often enough”, said Mrs Thomas Mitchell.

Lunch was served on the house.

DJ Teddy was in fine form, bringing a vibe to the event as well as going into the shops and doing interviews with customers and operators, and mixing that with giveaways.

Businesswoman Kerisha ‘Mumma Reesha’ Simpson ran the bar.

Mr Mitchell said he had underestimated the support of the community for the opening. He said, “It’s been a long journey but I think this is what success looks like.” He says he hopes to live to enjoy the fruits of his labour.
