Two men implicated in the gruesome stabbing death of a man in Mount Edgecombe in Runaway Bay, St Ann, almost three years ago, will spend the next 10 years in prison.
The convicted men, Junior White and Shawn Thompson were sentenced by Justice Glen Brown in the Home Circuit Court on Friday, July 14.
Both convicts had offered the guilty pleas on Friday, June 9 in the St Ann Circuit Court, to the charge of manslaughter.
The men were initially indicted with the murder of Dwight Asphall. When both men were pleaded they indicated that they were “not guilty of murder, but guilty to manslaughter.”
Reports are that the mutilated body of 41-year old Dwight Asphall was found inside his home at Mount Edgecombe in Runaway Bay, St. Ann by the police on Friday, August 8, 2014. Asphall was living in the US for a number of years and had only returned to Jamaica three months prior to his demise.
Asphall was found with multiple stab wounds at about 10:30 p.m.
The North Coast Times had then reported that he was stabbed close to 28 times and sources had said that it was clear that Asphall had put up a fight before he was killed.
Thompson and White were subsequently taken into custody and charged for Asphall’s murder.
At that time it was reported that the men (Thompson and White) were brought to the Discovery Bay Police Station by a taxi operator, after he made observations that the men who had taken his taxi were covered in blood.
They were questioned by investigators and the police then went to Asphall’s house where the discovery was made of his body.
