The men charged after police seized two trucks carrying stolen cattle in St Ann have been identified. They are: Anthony Turner, 36 years old, driver assistant of Rock River P.O; Alvara Black, 53 years old butcher of Osbourne Store, Toll Gate, and Donald Gooden, 73 years old, farm contractor of Comfort Village, Toll Gate, all of Clarendon, and Romaine McLean 27 years old, truck driver of Harmons, Manchester.
According to the police they responded to a case of praedial larceny of cattle in the Alexandria police area, Friday. On reaching the Kaiser Bauxite road the police recovered two trucks said to be registered to Juicy Beef Patties and carrying the company’s logo. The trucks had six stolen cows aboard. Police said three cattle farmers in the Alexandria area identified the cattle and gave statements that they were stolen.
However, Juicy Beef Patties (JBP) suggested that the men arrested were not stealing cows. It said the men representing Juicy Beef had gone to purchase cattle for the company, after they had advertised asking people who owned cattle to sell to the company. In the process of buying from a man they were approached by residents saying the cattle in the trucks were in fact stolen. According to a statement from JBP, a man supplying the cattle fled. Police arrested the men employed to JBP and later charged them under the Praedial Larceny Act. The company said its lawyers were handling the matter.
