Mayors, Councillors Get Big Pay Hikes Too

$5 M A YEAR FOR COUNCILLORS

 

 

Councillors are to get Five Million dollars a year as of April 1, with Deputy Mayors and Mayors collecting More under huge pay rises just announced.

The pay increases come under the Government Compensation Plan.

The announcement of increased salaries was made on Tuesday in the House by Minister of Finance Dr Nigel Clarke who, also at that time, reported large hikes in salaries to Members of Parliament (MPs), Cabinet Ministers etc.

Mayors, who are chairmen of the Councils, who now get $3.3 million a year, will get increases, starting April 2022, moving their salaries to $7.7 M; and at April 1, 2023, $8.7 M and as of next year April $9.9 Million. Mayors of Kingston and Montego Bay get more.

Deputy Mayors, except those in Kingston and Montego Bay, who now get $1.99 M have the following new rates as of April 1 in each year referenced, $5.8 M in 2022, $6.6 M in 2023, and $7.4 M as of next year (2024).

Councillors who were being paid $1.6 M a year are to get $5 Million as of April this year and $5.7 million as of April 1 next year.
