Mayor of Falmouth, Councillor Garth Wilkinson has encouraged Trelawny parishioners living overseas, as well as locals, to exercise patience as the Government, and the Parish Council, address the challenges facing the historical town. He was addressing Friends of Trelawny Association (FOTA) at its 33rd annual reunion and picnic held at the Bear Mountain Park in upstate New York on Sunday, May 25. “We understand the frustration…however, we are asking for your patience as well as your assistance towards making our town the beauty it can be,” the Mayor assured. He said that with the advent of the cruise ship pier, there was an increase in the expectation of many persons. However, he called for patience as the government continues with its development programme for the town. Mayor Wilkinson said the Council is in dialogue with the Port Authority of Jamaica, the Urban Development Corporation, the Tourism Enhancement Fund, and other agencies and stakeholders, with which it has partnered for the improvements. Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, Dr. Wykeham McNeill, on Tuesday, May 27, outlined in Parliament , a number of enhancements to, and plans for, the town. These include the Hampden Wharf Development, which he said will create an open experience that will accommodate craft vendors and other business people from the town. JIS said.. There has been widespread criticism of the operations mf the Cruise Ship Pier in Falmouth as local residents and people in the ground transport sector say there is little for them as most of the shopping is done on the pier itself and bus and taxi operators are not getting much business.
