Man who chopped up brother’s car fails to give reasons for his actions

A man who appeared before the St Mary Parish Court on Thursday, October 6, could not adequately give a reason as to what led him to chop up his brother’s car.

Horace Thompson of Tryall in the parish was the man who appeared before the court on charges of malicious destruction of property.

Allegations are that on Wednesday, September 21 at about 9 a.m., Thompson was seen with a machete. He later used the same machete and chopped his brother’s car which resulted in damage to the windscreen and car doors. Investigations revealed that Thompson had no problems with his brother at the time.

“Did you damage your brother’s car?” Enquired senior parish judge Andrea Collins.

“Yes,” Thompson replied.

“Why did you do it?” Judge Collins further asked.

Thompson began to explain that on the day in question, his wife had gone to work and his daughter was to stay with his three-year-old son. He continued to explain that he went to his bush early as he was a farmer.

“Sir, why did you damage the car?” Judge Collins once again asked.

Thompson attempted once again to explain, but no reason   was forthcoming.

“I just don’t know… My brother and I never have any problem… I have it rough enuh… Seven children me have and me always take care of them,” Thompson told Judge Collins.

After hearing the accused man, Judge Collins told him that she was ordering a psychiatric evaluation for Thompson.

Thompson was later remanded into custody until Thursday, October 13 for the evaluation to be done.cuff
