An “updated” psychiatric evaluation will have to be provided for the man accused of raping a 69-year-old resident of the St Mary Infirmary.
Asha Lowe of Tryall in the parish is the man charged with rape and indecent assault. He appeared before the St Mary Circuit Court on Monday, November 21.
When Lowe appeared before High Court judge Chester Champ, it was heard that an updated psychiatric evaluation had to be done for him.
When Lowe was before the circuit court on Thursday, July 22 of this year, two psychiatric evaluations, including one done by an independent psychiatrist had stated that the accused man was not fit to plea.
The matter was then traversed to November 21 by High Court Judge Marcia Dunbar-Green for a fitness to plea hearing to be done to determine whether Lowe can stand trial.
However, an updated evaluation is now needed.
Lowe’s matter will again be mentioned on Wednesday, November 30.
Lowe had his bail extended until then.
He was arrested and charged with rape and indecent assault in March of 2014 after he was pointed out in an identification parade, following the alleged incident on February 9 of that same year.
He is accused of assaulting a 69-year-old resident of the St. Mary Infirmary. Lowe has always maintained his innocence in relation to the allegations against him.
The allegations about the rape were widely reported and caused shock among many across the nation.
