Prisoner holding metal cage in jail no freedom concept

Police expect to charge a St Ann man for the murder of his cousin, following a dispute reportedly over $500, near Brown’s Town in the parish Tuesday night.

Dead is 25-year-old Daniel Codner, labourer of Benton, Retreat District, Brown’s Town, St. Ann. Codner celebrated his 25th birthday on Monday.

Police say that at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday Codner was walking along a roadway when a dispute developed between him and another man. Reports say Codner was accosted by the man over $500 that was in dispute.

Codner reportedly walked away and the other man pulled a rachet knife, stabbed him several times and cut his throat.

Codner ran to a neighbour’s house and collapsed.

He was assisted, by a family member, to the St. Ann’s Bay Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Brown’s Town Police later that same night held the suspect at his home. They say they recovered a knife believed to be the murder weapon. The suspect was placed into custody and is expected to be charged by Friday.
