man murdered

The father of the 22-year-old man killed allegedly by his blood relative in Exchange, St. Ann, last Friday morning, October 31, says he is deeply hurt and traumatized by the brutal and cruel death of his son.

Dead is Javel Fowler, 22-year-old artist, of Middle Street in Exchange, Ocho Rios.

Valin Fowler of Exchange in Ocho Rios, St. Ann said he still has not got over the tragic death of another of his sons, Micheal Oshane Fowler, whose body along with his stepfather was found dumped in a pit in Hyattsfield, also in St. Ann, four years ago. The two were murdered.

Fowler was stabbed to death reportedly following a dispute with by his cousin with whom he shared a family house. Police have not yet released the identity of the cousin who was hospitalized under police guard, with a wound to the head.

According to reports from the police, about 7:25 a.m., Friday, October 31, the cousins were involved in an argument which escalated. Police said Fowler was stabbed in the chest and that the cousin had a wound to the head. Police did not say if it was Fowler who inflicted the wound on his 32-year-old cousin.

The senior Fowler said he is deeply saddened by the murder of his son reportedly by such a close relative. He said the alleged killer is the nephew of his son’s mother. Mr Fowler said his son was no trouble maker.

“So when I heard that he died and when I listened to how he died, I know they are telling a lot of lies, I know it is not true because his cousin is the one who was always picking on him and he made complaints and the police even became involved,” a distraught Mr. Fowler told the North Coast Times.

Reports to The Times are that police went to the house and spoke to the cousins earlier Friday afternoon and on previous occasions. Unconfirmed reports were that the men were arguing about the upkeep of a bathroom in the house with one saying his girlfriend was doing all the work and the other and his girl friend were not doing their fare share.

GOOD SON

Mr Fowler described his son as a very jovial and nice person. He said Javel was someone that he could talk to and tell to do just about anything. The father said Javel was very well mannered and said he couldn’t ask for a better son.

Mr Fowler told the North Coast Times that his son and his cousin were involved in a dispute,  one Sunday, about a month ago. He said he was called to the house. Police were also called. There was an argument which got physical. Mr Fowler said the cousin assaulted his son and tore his shirt.

The police reportedly took the men to the station and warned them. The cousin was told to replace Javel’s shirt. Mr Fowler said when he got to the house that Sunday he spoke to his son, but became concerned after the cousin made certain statement.

Mr Fowler made allegations about what the cousin, now in hospital, said at the time. Mr Fowler said he was very concerned when he heard those words and told his son that he didn’t have to stay at the family house.

He explained that his son was staying with his girlfriend who recently gave birth to Javel’s only son. The child is two months. Mr Fowler said Friday morning he was at his mother’s house and shortly after sharing a vision with her, which she said would be ‘death’, he received a call that his son was killed.

Mr Fowler said he rushed to the scene but Javel was already transported to hospital. He said he visited the St Ann’s Bay hospital but broke down shortly after he saw his son’s lifeless body with a wound in the region of the left breast. He said he did not know if there were other wounds because he couldn’t stand to see his son like that.

The father told the Times that Javel went to the house Friday morning to retrieve something from his room. He said he was told that the cousin locked the door and wouldn’t let Javel in and that was where the argument started.

SHOCKED
“It is just devastating,” he said. The entire family as well as the community are shocked by the unfortunate incident.

“I can’t explain it, I feel real bad about it. Growing up my relatives and I didn’t have anything that we could think so evil to do to another relative, to me this is like a dream.”

He said he is still hurting from the murder of his other son, Micheal Oshane Fowler, whose body along with his stepfather were found dumped inside a pit at Hyatts Field four years ago.

“So you realize I have been going through this thing for a while, no one understands what I am going through except Almighty God, if it was not for the church (Shiloh Apostolic) that pray with me and I know God for myself, probably I wouldn’t be around right now.”
