Reports are that about 6:30 a.m., Kitson was travelling east, on the Runaway Bay Salem main road. Police reports say the vehicle he was driving, a white Toyota Corolla, was overtaking a line of traffic. A Hi-Pro truck was travelling in the opposite direction. Kitson reportedly tried to re-enter the line of traffic and hit another car before he lost control of the vehicle that ran into the path of the truck.

The truck driver tried to avoid a collision and took to the sidewalk in front of a supermarket before the car ran under the front of the truck. The occupants of the car were pinned in the vehicle.
Several area residents tried to remove the occupants but one could not be removed. Meantime, efforts were made to use buckets of sand to put out a fire that had started in the Corolla. An extinguisher was used to put out the fire.
Firefighters from the St Ann’s Bay station cut away portions of the vehicle and removed the occupant who was pinned in it.
Police said Kitson and his three passengers were taken to hospital where he died and the others were admitted for treatment. One was released.
People who knew Kitson told the North Coast Times that he was a hardworking young man who always had a smile.
