GUN, AMMO SEIZED IN SEPARATE INCIDENT

A man was shot dead by the police in Discovery Bay, St Ann, and in a separate incident, police recovered a gun and ammunition when a man fled leaving them, also in that north coast town.
Fatally shot by police is 34-year-old Sodane Downer of Old Folly, Discovery Bay.
The CCN reports that Downer was shot and killed about 5 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026, and a .38 pistol and six rounds were taken from him.
The police report (CCN) gave no details of the operation and said, in response to a query from the North Coast Times, that the matter has been reported to INDECOM for investigation, and no details were being provided.
Then on Saturday, Feb 14, also in Discovery Bay, police said they seized a Taurus pistol with several rounds of ammunition. According to the report, a man was seen at a shop on Portland Road, in the town. His actions aroused police suspicion. As they approached, the man dropped a bag and ran, escaping a police chase.
The bag was searched, and the gun and ammunition were found.
