The man charged for the murder of a construction worker in Ocho Rios, St Ann, last month was denied bail and remanded in custody when he appeared before the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrates court last week.
Charged with murder is 54- year-old Cleve Sutherland.
Sutherland is alleged to have fatally stabbed 31-year-old construction worker Richard Lester Williams, of Friendship Housing Scheme in Kitson Town, St. Catherine. Williams was stabbed to death after an argument with Sutherland at the popular swimming hole next to Turtle River Park, along DaCosta Drive.
When Sutherland appeared before RM Peter Wilson last Tuesday, March 10, a bail application by his attorney was rejected. The lawyer is expected to renew his application for bail on March 24, when the case will again be mentioned.
It is alleged that on Monday, February 23, Williams had gone to have a bath at a popular swimming hole next to Turtle River Park, across from Crane Ridge when there was a dispute about money and other items Williams said was missing from his clothes that he had left by the river bank.
It is further alleged that Sutherland used a knife to stab Williams in the neck, killing him. Police were quickly alerted by someone at the scene who ran to the nearby station. Sutherland was taken into custody for questioning and subsequently charged.
Police said the murder weapon was also found.
